Even though actress Karen Mok Man-wai (far left, with her mother, father and brother) had to perform a show with popular duo DJ Sammy Leung Chi-kin and Kitty Yuen Siu-yee on Monday night, she found time to attend her father Mok Tin-chi's book launch in the afternoon alongside her mother, aunts and uncles. At what seemed more like a family dim sum outing than a book launch, the Moks and friends crowded around a table at Cantonese restaurant Heichinrou in Central. The elder Mok, who is half Welsh, half Chinese and prefers to be called Alan Morris, has released several books over the years, most notably the cookbook he co-wrote with his daughter.
His latest effort, titled Tui Bei Tu (which translates as 'Pushing Back Photo') is a book of predictions based on ancient Chinese philosophy and astrology. Mok said he spent 30 years researching the book, studying everything from fung shui to Chinese prediction theory. Despite her father's knowledge, however, his daughter has never asked him to predict her fate. 'I don't want to know what's supposed to happen and then have to worry,' she said. The book retails for HK$88.
